The latest Fanboys suffers from Cliff Syndrome, where the background doesn't extend far enough to convey a sense of depth, instead looking like it takes place on the edge of a cliff.

For a minimalistic alternative, observe Homestar Runner. Any shot of The Field generally has a row of bushes between the ground and the sky. Sometimes, the simple tricks work wonders.
